The political and social setting in the third millennium still relatively discriminates women and minorities in different parts of the world. Sociological research confirms the marginality of most women and some social groups opposed to policies identified with traditional power-systems. An issue clearly demonstrated in the articles gathered in this volume. The present contributors effectively describe what women as well as particular minorities experienced in their lives. There are countries and social contexts where no official educational system for women exists. In such cases women have no control over their own finances, live on the edge of society, under the strict control of the patriarchal system represented by their fathers, brothers, and husbands. Women’s tacit compliance perpetuates the system in those backgrounds. By the same token, the content of the present book shows that some minorities are building their fragmented identity on the ashes of a tormented history. Pushed over the edge into an abyss from which only the most resolute and determined ones can extricate themselves, these minorities develop their inner and innate resources to overcome the constraints imposed upon them by the prevailing social code.

Il contesto politico e sociale nel terzo millennio è ancora relativamente discriminatorio nei confronti delle donne e delle minoranze in diverse parti del mondo. Ricerche sociologiche confermano come la maggior parte delle donne e alcuni gruppi sociali siano ancora marginali se paragonati a politiche identificate dai tradizionali sistemi di potere. Gli autori descrivono dettagliatamente cosa le donne e altre minoranze hanno dovuto vivere nella loro vita. Ci sono nazioni o contesti sociali in cui non esiste un percorso di istruzione ufficiale per le donne ed esse non hanno nessun controllo della loro indipendenza finanziaria, vivono emarginate dalla società, sotto un rigido controllo patriarcale da parte dei loro padri, fratelli o mariti e l’accettazione silente di questo sistema  rende possibile il suo perdurare. Allo stesso modo il contenuto di questo libro mostra come certe minoranze stiano timidamente sviluppando la loro identità partendo dalle ceneri di una storia tormentata. Forzatamente spinte in abissi da cui solo i più risoluti e determinati riescono ad evadere, queste minoranze sviluppano le loro profonde ed innate risorse per superare le restrizioni imposte dal contesto sociale prevaricante.
