L’aggiornamento degli spazi scolastici ha un ruolo cruciale in tempo di sostanziali transizioni in atto. L’indagine sulle strategie necessarie per adeguare gli spazi educativi contemporanei coinvolge un patrimonio eterogeneo e si interfaccia con la necessità di ripensare scuole e modalità di apprendimento. La presente pubblicazione, in collaborazione tra DAStU-Craft del Politecnico di Milano, Area Edilizia Scolastica e Direzione Educazione del Comune di Milano, Conseil d’Architecture, d’Urbanisme et de l’Environnement | CAUE della Città di Parigi e gli studi di architettura MUOTO e ChariterDalix, è centrata sull’esplorazione di un «orizzonte condiviso» a cui far riferimento durante il processo decisionale e di programmazione strategica degli interventi sul patrimonio scolastico.
L’obiettivo di raccogliere diversi punti di vista restituisce la complessità e la ricchezza della sfera scolastico-educativa. In questo contesto, coadiuvare il processo di programmazione ed elaborazione di linee strategiche con i più aggiornati scenari nel panorama dell’Unione Europea appare un’effettiva necessità delle nostre amministrazioni pubbliche. Il volume introduce sia iniziative di progetti pilota francesi caratterizzati da un coordinamento istituzionale tra diversi dipartimenti della città che alcuni interventi puntuali guidati da approcci innovativi, basati sulle necessità economiche, ecologiche e pedagogiche contemporanee e documentati sia nel contesto milanese che nell’area metropolitana parigina.
The upgrading of school spaces plays a crucial role at a time of significant change. The investigation of the strategies required to adapt contemporary educational spaces involves a diverse range of buildings and is linked to the need to rethink schools and learning methods. This book, a collaboration between DAStU-Craft at the Politecnico di Milano, the School Building Department and the Education Department of the City of Milan, the Conseil d’Architecture, d’Urbanisme et de l’Environnement | CAUE of the City of Paris, and the architectural firm MUOTO and ChariterDalix, focuses on exploring a «shared horizon» as a tool for the decision-making and strategic planning processes for interventions on school architectures.
The aim of gathering perspectives reflects the complexity and richness of the school and educational field. In this context, supporting the process of designing and implementing strategic policies in line with the latest developments within the European Union appears to be a genuine necessity for our public administrations. The volume introduces both French pilot projects characterised by institutional coordination between various city departments and specific interventions guided by innovative approaches, based on contemporary economic, ecological and pedagogical needs and documented in both the Milanese context and the Paris metropolitan area.
Barbara Coppetti
Architetto PhD, Professoressa associata in Progettazione architettonica e urbana presso il Dipartimento di Architettura e Studi Urbani del Politecnico di Milano, è stata docente nel Master in Sustainable Architecture and Landscape Design, è docente nel corso di studio di Laurea magistrale in Architettura e nel corso di studi di Laurea triennale. Conduce ricerca scientifica sul tema dell’aggiornamento e del riuso dell’esistente, operando azioni, pratiche e strategie progettuali di rigenerazione architettonica e ambientale. È Responsabile scientifico della ricerca Una scuola condivisa. Per una cultura della felicità finanziata dal Fondo per il contrasto alla povertà educativa minorile, e della ricerca Industria nel parco – Architettura Energia Paesaggio commissionata dalla Holding Terni Research. Ha coordinato Inventing Schools. Una scuola grande come il mondo e Riformare Milano – Esperimenti progettuali per spazi ed edifici abbandonati e degradati; è membro del gruppo di ricerca PRIN Re-Cycle Italy. Partecipa a convegni nazionali e internazionali, è curatrice di mostre e autrice di libri, saggi e articoli pubblicati su riviste specializzate.
Architect, PhD, Associate Professor in Architectural and Urban Design at the Department of Architecture and Urban Studies, Politecnico di Milano. She has taught in the Master’s programme in Sustainable Architecture and Landscape Design and currently teaches in both the Master’s Degree Programme in Architecture and the Bachelor’s Degree Programme. Her research focuses on the adaptation and reuse of existing built environments, developing actions, practices, and design strategies for architectural and environmental regeneration. She is the Scientific Coordinator of the research project A Shared School, for a Culture of Happiness, funded by the Fund for the Fight against Child Educational Poverty, and of the research project Industry in the Park – Architecture, Energy, Landscape, commissioned by Terni Research Holding. She has coordinated Inventing Schools. A School as Big as the World and Reforming Milan – Design Experiments for Abandoned and Degraded Spaces and Buildings and is a member of the PRIN research group Re-Cycle Italy. She participates in national and international conferences and is a curator of exhibitions as well as the author of books, essays, and articles published in academic journals.
Raffaella Cavallaro
Architetto e dottoranda in Architectural, Urban and Interior Design (AUID) Program presso il Dipartimento di Architettura e Studi Urbani (DAStU) del Politecnico di Milano, dove svolge attività di ricerca e di supporto alla didattica dal 2019. È stata visiting researcher presso l’ENSA Paris Malaquais nel Laboratoire Infrastructure, Architecture, Territoire (LIAT) e la sua ricerca, intitolata Learning Spaces in Contemporary Metropolitan Cities. «Common Ground» design strategies to care and update Milan’s primary and secondary state schools, si occupa di architettura per l’istruzione, esplorando modelli e strategie per spazi di apprendimento innovativi, fa parte del programma nazionale PNRR (nell’ambito del programma europeo NEXTGeneration EU) in collaborazione con l’Area Tecnica Scuole del Comune di Milano. Il suo impegno è rivolto alla definizione di strategie di cura e aggiornamento del patrimonio scolastico, tema esplorato negli ultimi anni attraverso collaborazioni di ricerca, workshop, pubblicazioni e concorsi di progettazione. Ha contribuito a pubblicazioni sull’architettura per l’istruzione, quali Una scuola condivisa. Per una cultura della felicità (Milano, 2022) e Inventing Schools. Una scuola grande come il mondo (Siracusa, 2023).
Architect and PhD Candidate in «Architectural, Urban and Interior Design» (AUID) Program at the Department of Architecture and Urban Studies (DAStU) of the Politecnico di Milano, Italy, where she has been researching and supporting teaching since 2019. She was a visiting researcher at ENSA Paris Malaquais in the «Laboratoire Infrastructure, Architecture, Territoire» (LIAT) and her research, Learning Spaces in Contemporary Metropolitan Cities. «Common Ground» design strategies to care and update Milan’s primary and secondary state schools, which deals with architecture for education and explores models and strategies for innovative learning spaces, is part of the national PNRR program (within the European NEXTGeneration EU program) in collaboration with the Municipality of Milan’s Schools Technical Area. She is committed to defining strategies for updating school buildings, a topic she has explored in recent years through research collaborations, workshops, publications and design competitions. She has contributed to publications on architecture for education, such as Una scuola condivisa. Per una cultura della felicità (2022) and Inventing Schools. A School as Big as the World (2023).
